Counselling

I am a person-centred counsellor - which simply put, means you are at the heart of the therapy – it is about you, not about me, or what I think. This means you choose what to talk about, what to focus on changing or improving. I believe that we are all the experts in ourselves, but sometimes we can forget that, lose sight of who we are and how to be authentic, of what we need. This means I won’t tell you what I think you should do, but I will help you work out what the best way forward is for you, looking at how you are feeling, what is painful or challenging in your life and how to get through that. There is more information about person-centered therapy as an approach here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/therapy-types/person-centered-therapy

Counselling with me offers you an opportunity to be supported in trying to find a positive way forward with personal experiences or challenges in a confidential, encouraging environment. This may include expressing feelings that are painful, ones which all of us can experience at times – times when it can be challenging to stay positive and cope with everyday life. This could include anxiety, stress, depression, abuse, addiction, relationship difficulties, bereavement, depression, self-esteem, sexual orientation, post-traumatic stress or thoughts of suicide or self-harming. These are some of the things people talk about but you can talk about whatever it is that you’re finding challenging.

I offer you, to the best of my ability, counselling that is supportive, encouraging and non-judgemental. I will offer you the time and space to talk and aim to understand and gain insight into your experiences. I will not give advice or tell you what I think you should do, as I believe that the best person to know you – is you. I may refer to other support services or resources that could be helpful, but it will be your choice to use these or not.

For me, the essential element to therapy, to making changes and improvements is the relationship between us - which is why I am respectful, patient and caring at all times, working at your pace with your agenda. I am accredited with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and have full professional indemnity insurance.

I think it's really important you look around for a counsellor, find one that suits you. I offer an initial telephone call, free of charge, to talk through what you're looking to get from counselling, what's brought you to counselling. It's a chance for you to ask me any questions you might have, but also to sound me out, see if I'm the right person to help you. Feel free to email or use the form below to arrange a telephone call, at a time to suit you.

Fees:

I aim to keep my fees for counselling fair and competitive, offering a sliding scale based on income:

Above average income: £60.00 for a one hour face-to-face session.

Average income: £50.00 for a one hour face-to-face session.

Below average income: £40.00 for a one hour face-to-face session.

By offering a sliding scale, it is my hope this makes my counselling accessible to more people. I don't ask for proof, or ask any questions about your income, I ask that you pay what is appropriate.

Payment can be made in session by cash, or 24 hours prior to each session via PayPal or bank transfer. A receipt will be provided for all payments received.
